This was how the conversation went with Lillian in the car this morning:
L: Mommy, when is the next holiday when we get candy?
Me: Um, not sure, Lillo.
L: Oh! I know! It's EASTER! The Easter bunny will bring us candeeeeeee!
Me: Lillian, do you know why we celebrate Easter?
L: Because of the Easter bunny.
Me: Well, not exactly. Do you know who died on the cross and then was buried in a tomb and rose again on Easter?
L: The Easter Bunny!
Me: No. Who was born at Christmastime?
L: Santa Claus.
Me: No. What BABY was born at Christmas?
L: Baby JESUS!
Me: Right. And he grew up and died on the cross to save us from our sins, right? And he rose out of his tomb on the third day and that's why we celebrate Easter.
L: Oh. Will the Easter bunny still bring me candy?
Me: Sure.
L: Tell him I like jellybeans.

Yeah, gotta love it! Do you wonder why it is that they only remember the Easter bunny & Santa Claus part when we KNOW we've told them many many times the REAL reason for celebrating. Kids... gotta love em!
Very cute story. (Oh, & you can tell him I like Jelly Beans too, esp the black ones) LOL
Aw - you have to appreciate the perspective of a child.
Too cute!!
So cute! She knows the "real" reason we have all these holidays, lol!
How funny! :D If it makes you feel any better, Jared goes from one holiday until the next. As soon as Christmas is over, he'll start asking about toys for Easter (the bunny gives them one thing). Then, it's on to his birthday. Then, Halloween. Then, we're back to Christmas. And so on and so on...
